BC SALTWATER FISHING FOR SALMON
& HALIBUT
Saltwater fishing is done off 4 Scotty Electric downriggers,
using 10 1/2 ft. mooching rods, with either level-wind,
or single action reels. In May, June, and the first
half of July, King or Chinook salmon are our main
quarry, using cut-plug herring or anchovies at depths
from 25 to 60 ft. King salmon range in size from 12
to 75 lbs. With many Tyees (fish over 30 lbs.) being
caught. Coho salmon or silvers start showing up in
June, and their numbers and size increase as they
feed voraciously building weight and strength to fight
their way up the rivers of their origin. Although
not our main targets, Pink, Sockeye, and Chum salmon
are caught incidentally while fishing for Kings and
Silvers. |

Besides fishing for salmon, saltwater fishing includes
bottom fishing for Halibut, Ling Cod, Red Snapper,
and a plethora of Rock fish that reside in the bountiful
waters of Dixon Entrance. Bottom fishing is usually
done at anchor in close proximity to peaks and reefs
where schools of these tasty bottom dwellers feed.
For bottom fishing we use heavy duty short rods equipped
with lever drag level wind reels filled with 100lb.
test Spectra fishing line. Bait can be Herring, Octopus,
salmon, or jigs.
Halibut are the most popular quarry, because of their
reputation as great table fare, they range in size
from 15-300lbs. with 25-50 lbers. Being the most sought
after. Ling cod can get to 50lbs. and rockfish vary
greatly in size but limits are generous. During a
four day excursion there is always plenty of time
for salmon and bottom fishing and limits although
not always the most important factor, are often achieved.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
As of June 1st the limit on Halibut is being decreased. Book before May 31st to take advantage of the higher limits for Halibut. |

FRESHWATER FISHING
This is where the phrase "catch fish til you're
arms ache" really applies. When Pacific Salmon
return to their rivers of origin and start their arduous
journey upriver, we anchor our big boat in the estuaries
of these BC rivers and use our jet boat to travel
upstream and encounter the salmon runs as they move
upriver.
Coho salmon (silvers) are our main quarry, but we
also catch Pinks, Chums, Kings, and Dolly Varden,
Steelhead, and Cutthroat Trout as well. The BC rivers
we freshwater fish are medium to small in size and
are very remote. You will rarely encounter other anglers.
The freshwater river fishing is fantastic with days
of 40 to 50 hookups not uncommon. Fishing hours are
usually six to seven hours a day, in duration depending
on high tides. The rest of the day is spent fishing
for Crab and Prawns, or bottom fishing in the estuaries
of the rivers.

|
The opportunity for viewing wildlife is excellent,
with many sightings of bears, eagles, wolves, and
other creatures. Freshwater river fishing commences
in mid to late August, and lasts into October. Methods
for fishing are fly, lure, or bait casting, we ask
that you bring you're own gear and tackle, or make
prior arrangements with us before you arrive. Trips
of five days are usually recommended for river trips
to fully enjoy you're excursion.
